In summary, a passive house is one that, due to its type of construction, allows it to obtain much higher energy efficiency than that of conventional buildings. The principle of passive houses is to achieve self-sufficiency, that is, to be able to function independently, without input of external energy, but with simple techniques, without equipment. El principio de las casas pasivas es conseguir la autosuficiencia, es decir, ser capaz de funcionar de forma independiente, sin aportaciones de energía exterior, pero con unas técnicas sencillas, sin equipos. Entre las medidas más eficaces, se encuentra el ahorro de energía mediante el uso de aislamiento térmico (ventanas de triple cristal con gas argón). Otra medida emplea unos sistemas de renovación del aire para recuperar gran parte de la energía del aire expulsado al exterior del edificio durante la renovación (proceso por el que el aire viciado expulsado al exterior se reemplaza por aire fresco y limpio impulsado al interior).
